Find here all the information you need if you plan to get one or all four Dragon Ball compendiums. Specific details about each of them, their names, content, format, etc. Additionally, we also share information and curiosities about the Spanish edition brought to us by the publisher Planeta.
The Dragon Ball compendiums as a whole are the "ultimate guide" to the entire universe created by Akira Toriyama around Dragon Ball. In these compendiums, you can find unique illustrations, fold-out pages, interviews with the author, character sketches, curiosities from the manga and anime, techniques, and the author's original ideas, some of which were never seen in the original manga and refined in Super or Daima.
This collection consists of 4 compendiums, each dedicated to a specific theme. The first one was published in Japan by Shueisha in 2013 and arrived in Spain in 2014 through Planeta Cómic.
The first Dragon Ball compendium is titled "Guide to the Story and Its World", and it is a compilation, improvement, and update of the old Daizenshuu 2 and 4, which were the previous compendiums before this one.
In this first volume, you will find all kinds of guides: covering the story, different worlds, characters, battles, races, technologies, emblems, and interviews with Akira Toriyama, including one from 2013.
Additionally, it features numerous illustrations and even a few posters.
Just like the first, this second compendium, titled "Guide to Animation I", compiles, improves, and updates the old Daizenshuu 3 and 5.
This volume is dedicated to the Dragon Ball anime, including DB, DBZ, and the special TV editions released after Z and before Battle of Gods.
It is divided into three sections:
Each section features images of all the battles, and at the end of the volume, you’ll find the interview with Akira Toriyama originally from the Daizenshuu 3 and 5.
This third compendium is a continuation of the previous one, which is why it is titled "Guide to Animation II". It includes re-edited, improved, and updated content from the old Daizenshuu 3, 5, 6, and their supplements.
In this compendium, we continue exploring all the Dragon Ball anime released up until Battle of Gods, and it is divided into two parts:
As in the previous two compendiums, an interview with Akira Toriyama is included at the end.
The fourth and final compendium is titled "Super Encyclopedia", and like the other three, it is a re-edition, update, and improvement of the old Daizenshuu 7.
This volume is the most descriptive and least narrative, as it delves into key concepts from the entire Dragon Ball universe. It is divided into six parts:
Additionally, this final compendium concludes with reflections on Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama and Masako Nozawa (the voice of Goku in Japan).
The data provided here corresponds to the Spanish edition published by Planeta Cómic, though it closely mirrors the Japanese version and the edition released in most countries.
As a curiosity, it is worth mentioning that all four compendiums include fold-out posters and are fully in color. Additionally, they feature some unique illustrations not found in other publications.
