This 2017 S.H. Figuarts Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku figure is the second version released of Goku in this transformation, improving in every aspect over the 2012 version. It features a new sculpt, 2.0 articulation, and a wide range of interchangeable hands. The body of this figure has been reused for all 2.0 Gokus without battle damage up to the present day.
This 'Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku' was first released in 2017 as a regular release and has had several restocks since then. It is also the 43rd figure in the Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts collection.
This release is based on the Majin Buu Saga, when we first see this transformation, and it’s the second version of this figure made by the brand. The original came out in 2012, featuring a 1.0 body, a color scheme many considered awful, and even worse facial expressions. The only thing the original did “better” was include a ki aura effect, which has never been released again with any other SHF figure.
As the second version of SSJ 3 Goku, this time we get a 100% new sculpt and the updated 2.0 body system that was first introduced with the 2015 SSJ Awakening Goku.
A fun fact about this figure is that it was the first to use the newly sculpted 2.0 body for Goku in his Turtle School outfit without battle damage. This body would go on to be reused for all 2.0 Gokus released after this, varying only in kanji, color tone, or belt style—making it the most profitable mold for the brand, alongside the 2.0 Vegeta mold.
The sculpt of the face, hair, and body is solid overall, but with the introduction of the newer 3.0 and 4.0 body types, we truly deserve a new version (and as of 2025, we still don’t have one).
Though its accessories are not particularly varied, it comes with plenty of interchangeable hands, allowing for countless battle poses. The main downside of this figure is its lack of stability due to the size of the hair, but honestly, this is still a figure we at Listacompletade.com recommend without hesitation—until a new version is released with upgraded articulation and sculpting.
