As had become customary in the S.H. Figuarts collection, during the 2013 SDCC, Tamashii Nations released the Piccolo 'Special Color Edition' figure exclusively for the event. This figure was a re-release of the one launched in 2009, but with the Anime-accurate colors, rather than the ones from the Manga. Everything else about the figure remained exactly the same.
Since 2011, Tamashii Nations and Bandai have made it a tradition to release exclusive re-releases of successful figures with a special recolor for the SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con). In 2013, it was Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z with the 'Special Color Edition'.
This was the second release of this Namekian character and the 12th overall in the collection. As previously mentioned, since it's a re-release that only changes the colors, the figure keeps the original 1.0 body along with the same accessories. The only differences are the paint job and the "box."
The color changes are very noticeable on this Piccolo figure. In the Anime, his belt is blue, and his muscles are pink, while in the Manga, the belt is red, and the muscles are yellow. Additionally, the shading on the suit and skin is darker and shinier. You can clearly see these differences in the gallery images where the figures are placed side by side.
Today, this figure is mainly for completists, as it has been surpassed by the 2020 figure with the 2.0 body, which outperforms it in every way, or the more recent 2025 Daima version, which comes with a 4.0 body and a fabric cape.
