The Funko POP! Animation figures from Dragon Ball are mid-range static collectibles that, like the rest of Funko's lines, are characterized by their oversized head design. Discover here their different series, the reason behind their numbering, what GITD means, what a Chase figure is, and many more curiosities about this incredible collection.
This Dragon Ball collection is manufactured and distributed by the American company Funko under a licensing agreement with Toei and Shueisha DB.
Funko produces various types of collectible products such as keychains, mugs, t-shirts, figures, etc. Each of these product types has a specific name; in this case, these figures belong to the POP! line, and within the Funko POP! collection, you'll find different labels, some dedicated to specific franchises or themes. For example, the DB Funkos fall under the "Animation" label.
Regarding distribution, except for some event or region exclusives, these figures are easy to find in toy stores, commercial shops, and specialty stores. Funko POP! figures are so popular that they are even sold in some kiosks.
As for their price, a regular release figure typically costs around $15, while exclusive or super-sized figures can range from $25 to $60, approximately.
As we have already mentioned, Funko POP! figures include thousands of models, and to classify them into collections, the brand created different seals that group each of these lines.
Some seals are dedicated exclusively to a franchise or a set of franchises from the same company, such as "Marvel" or "Disney," which cover multiple sagas and form extensive collections on their own.
Other seals group franchises by theme. For example, the "Television" seal includes Funkos from various TV series, "Games" features figures based on video games, and "Animation" is dedicated to animated series. It is in this last category where we find figures from Dragon Ball or Naruto.
Regardless of the brand they belong to, the lines are a characteristic of each figure, not its brand. These were created to differentiate the different versions of Funko POP! figures.
Generally, Funkos measure 3.5", are made of vinyl, and have a matte finish according to the character they represent. However, there are exceptions and variants, such as 6" or 10" figures, versions with chrome or metallic paint, models that glow in the dark, others with a flocked texture, among many other differences.
To classify these variations, lines were created that group figures with similar characteristics, regardless of their brand of origin. Some of the most common ones are:
We’ve already discussed what a seal and a line are within Funko POP!, but to know exactly how to distinguish them, you only need to look at the top left corner to see which seal it belongs to, and to identify its line, you can check for a sticker in the bottom right corner. Here’s an image so you can see it clearly.
This is a question that many of us have wondered, and the answer is simple: "chase" figures are variants of a figure released at the same time, but with more limited quantities. These variants can be GITD, Chrome, or feature some changes to the character. You can also tell if it's a "chase" by looking at the bottom right corner, where it has a seal.
If you've made it this far, this question answers itself: the Dragon Ball Funko POP! figures belong to the "Animation" label and share numbering with other animated shows.
There are more than 200 Dragon Ball Funko figures you can find in the complete list, but in the meantime, here is a small sample of all the Funko figures we have cataloged.
